LifeStyles offers options designed to meet the needs of transportation-disadvantaged populations including the elderly, disabled persons and those with lower income. Individuals have different needs and may require a set of different services depending on their abilities, their environment, and the options available in their community. We offer qualified drivers and volunteers that provide services in a compassionate and friendly manner. LifeStyles operate three main programs in our transportation services: “Southern Maryland RIDES,” “Senior Rides,” and the “Summer Meals” programs.

The “Southern Maryland RIDES” Transit program provides subsidized and coordinated transportation services for eligible low- to moderate-income, persons with disabilities, and veteran Southern Maryland residents to get to employment- and medical-related appointments (i.e., interviews, One-Stop career centers, gathering of identification documents, work attire, doctor's office, or other items) throughout the Washington, DC Urbanized region. This service is provided based on staff and volunteer driver availability, and other alternative transportation methods. This program is provided with funding support from the Maryland Transit Administration, Rural Maryland Council, and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.  The "Southern Maryland RIDES” program is a united and compassionate response to reduce the transportation barriers of Southern Maryland residents to access and to maintain employment. An electronic dispatch system is used to support this program, funded by a grant through the Rural Maryland Council.

Our “Senior Rides” program assists low-to-moderate-income seniors in Charles County with subsidized, door-to-door transportation services to assist them in meeting their “basic needs,” i.e., medical appointments, grocery store, nutritional programs, post office, etc. In addition, we provide social and recreational transportation for those to attend senior center programs and other life-enriching activities. This program allows LifeStyles to cater to the needs of the senior residents, while also determining other social and economic needs of the clients. Oftentimes, we are able to connect “Senior Rides” participants with other health and human services programs, i.e., Office on Aging, Senior Centers, Meals on Wheels, etc. Transportation is provided for Charles County seniors throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan region.

Our Summer Meals program is a partnership with the Charles County Public Schools, Department of Community Services, Department of Social Services, and other community agencies. The goal is to provide meals to children that are eligible for free- and reduced lunch during the summer months. Drivers are dispatched to mobile school and community sites to provide lunches every weekday during a 6 – 8 week period to ensure these children still have access to a nutritious meal.

These services provide subsidized transportation, and you may contact Crystal Tellechea, Transportation Coordinator, for more information:
